Two more to tell about and that will be all for today.
First, a kind of isolated snack I found last week. It's on
the edge of the local drinking area, but what makes it
isolated is it's on the second floor of a building that
only has one or two other bars open in it. Kind of an old
building. Anyway, the mama works by herself, is around 50,
but get this: her husband, a dentist passed away when she
was about 38, at which time she not only started up her
snack but also started smoking! She smokes an all-white 100
that is usually only seen in superslim variety here in
Japan, either Vogue or Capri I can't remember now which
one. But hers are regular slim size, not superslim. So
think your typical VS 100 Menthol Lights. Her style is
unusual, perhaps because of her late start (?) She has deep
exhales, and then mostly nostril exhales but with some
drifting exhale. In other words, no cone, and most of the
smoke exits through her nostrils. I look forward to going
there again in the future (very reasonable prices) and
asking more about her smoking history and style.

After the other customer left, I offered her one of my
cigarillos. I think she refused politely at first, but then
took it on second offer with minimal coaxing. As you might
expect, she mentioned it was a little strong, and she was
asking after about 10 minutes of smoking it at a regular
pace if it was okay to put it out and light it back up
later. (Of course I said yes.) Although her bar has been
open about 13 year or so, it looks like she is kind of
hurting for customers so I wouldn't doubt that she will be
another cigar cherry in the near future. But I would go
back just to see her unusual exhale style, and in the
knowledge that she started smoking at such a late age.

Last one! A place I just discovered this week. As usual for
the best places I have found in the past, totally by
accident. The mama will only tell me she is in her 40s;
looks about 45-48 from my experience, but a nice-looking
mid 40s at that. Not what I would call slim, for a Japanese
woman, but not chubby either. Just about right, I guess!
She was sitting by herself at the counter when I opened the
door, and she immediately got up and put the ashtray and
her cigs behind the counter and moved into action getting
my beer and snack. I noticed her brand, Lark 100 corks in
the red pack, just like the woman I mentioned earlier with
the immediate cone exhale who was my first cigar cherry
here. The ashtray had three butts in it already, so I knew
she was an IRL and not just a social smoker. She didn't
smoke her first in front of me until I had been there about
45 minutes, but it was worth the wait. Deep inhales and
equal distribution between nostrils and mouth on the
exhales, with plenty of smoke coming from all three
orifices. Not really a stream from the mouth, more like a
simple pushing out of the smoke. Same for the nostrils,
really, not really jet streams but steady, heavy smoke
nonetheless.

She would tend her lit cigarette carefully, always adjusting the ash to her liking in the ashtray after each drag. She would put it down in the ashtray about three times for each cig, only to pick it up after just 5 seconds or so! Yes, a heavy smoker and one who obviously loves her cigarettes dearly, almost smiling as she pulled each cigarette from her pack and smoked it. She smoked a cigarillo later with no problem (her Larks are something like 12 and 1.0 in the nicotine/tar stats) She just mentioned how sweet it was, but didn't really go on about it like some women do. She probably is a one-brand woman, which is fine with me. We had great conversation (both of us talking about times we had drank until morning, she talking about falling asleep behind the counter or in the stairwell) and I was there about three hours, so I'm sure I'll go back, enjoy watching her smoke her cork-filtered Lark 100s with her unique nostril exhales and, eventually, score another cigar cherry when the time is right.
