> Sorry about that guys. Hope somebody's still there. Looks like they are. This is practically the only s.f. board that's still active. As on all of them, the activity ebbs and flows, but it keeps going. A lot of the most vocal old-timers (within the life span of the s.f. community, that is) aren't spouting the way they used to, and the elaborately redesigned smokesigs.com boards are practically silent. Have noticed another thing too, which isn't peculiar to this community but seems to have taken hold Webwide, which is that when debates do arise a lot of people are unwilling to give other people's views a hearing. I happen to like contentiousness in forums, because I think it makes them more lively, and have stirred the cauldron myself a good bit. But there's this trend now where people aren't even willing to digest what the other fella is saying before rejecting it. Every point of view has something in it, even if it's bollocks as a whole, but more and more I see response posts that are just kneejerk insults, and and are seen as a complete answer to the argument: STUPID. WINGNUT. LIBERALOONY. It has always been the case that arguments generate rudeness and ill will, but now a lot of people just hold their hands over their ears and keep out what they don't want to hear, or expect they won't want to hear. In that case, what's the point in being out on the Web at all? Anyhow, I second the sentiments of others that it's good to have one of the last surviving boards back in service. |
