It doesn't ring true. For one thing, if she was still in an anti smoking mind-set and actively trying to get the guy to quit I don't think she would have accepted his offer of a cigarette. It pretty much blows her whole case against him smoking. I also doubt that she would have associated the offered cigarette with relief from her stress because she wouldn't have known that it was due to nicotine withdrawal. Since a transdermal patch has to be stuck to the skin to deliver the goods, I find it unlikely that she wouldn't have woken when he removed it. Would you sleep through having a band aid pulled off? Same sensation.
